The Evolutions of Perfumes: From Liquid to Solid

Updated: Jun 22, 2024

Perfumes are among the oldest creations of humankind, dating back around 4,000 years. Over time, many different and unique ingredients have been used to craft sophisticated aromas, including citrus fruits, various woods, a wide range of flowers, and more. These unique aromas are typically made by combining ingredients, or notes, to create new scents. These notes are classified as top notes, middle notes, and base/heart notes. To strengthen the perfume's aroma, around 70%-90% of alcohol is often added to the mixture (Nedstar, n.d.). As time progresses, perfumery has experienced many innovations, from functionality to the core ingredients used.

One such innovation is transforming perfumes into a solid form. This innovation eliminates spillage, allowing users to carry their perfume anywhere without worrying about spills, breakage, or restrictions on liquid products. Solid perfumes can use different bases to achieve their form, such as beeswax. Beeswax, a natural product from bees, offers several benefits over traditional perfumes. It is superior in managing sensitive skin compared to products with synthetic ingredients, minimizing the chances of skin irritation while providing soothing benefits (Beeswax Uses for Skin Care, 2019).

Solid perfumes are also claimed to be more long-lasting than liquid perfumes. Since solid perfumes do not contain water, the scent does not evaporate as quickly or get removed by sweat easily (Vicki, 2023). This is especially beneficial for users in tropical countries where heat and sweating are common.

LMSNT perfumes take inspiration from these innovations and apply them to our products. We use beeswax as a base for our solid perfumes, while still incorporating a complex mixture of ingredients to create unique aromas comparable to those of liquid perfumes.
